Rogue Power Mongers
"Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues and freebooters. All Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw." Winston Churchill on the eve of Indian Independence.
Has he been proved right? Ground realities seem to suggest that.
Some Quick Notes
- Just when one thought that perhaps BJP may provide a better alternative to Congress/BSP/SP - look what they are upto in Uttar Pradesh elections with CDs and irresponsible ads.
- Just when one thought that IITian floated party will win something - a NDTV report suggests that these folks are going to lose their deposit in Uttar Pradesh - because voting public itself is largely dishonest and votes mainly on caste lines.
- Just when one thought Olympics is round the corner (2008) and someone in the sports ministry is going to talk about it, the media and ministers are obsessed with a single sport - cricket. Does it matter to anyone that ex-hockey(national sport!) olympians are quite poor?
- Well.....

come on AKD. cheer up. why are you forgetting our other achievements? we are second only after africa in terms of HIV infected people. the resurgence in polio and tb cases is a boon for the pharma industry. and look at the high growth shown in female foeticide. :-)
Whats up AKD? Are you an NRI by any chance?
There is a lot that we need to improve. However, I remain hopeful. If any other nation was so different in terms of caste, creed, religion, areas, they would have broken up long ago.
Instead, we are now on the path to prospering, although with warts.
Musings > You are right:). I have a lot to cheer about.
silkboard: No i am very much a ordinary indian - who doesnt believe that PILs is a way to solve nations problems. Infact the other way round - Large number of PILs are a grim pointer to the shameful administration of this country.
Ashish> Yes man.. i am hopeful too, but only because of i know a growing middle class will rub off need for development in the long run perhaps. But it would be a very long run.
I wonder if the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for freedom - would have ever imagined - that dacoits, and criminals will be running large parts of this country in the garb of 'netas'.
And to all the folks who think - we need not question the Ministers - i've only one thing to say - They are peoples representatives (elected), they hold the purse string (collected taxes) - hence they are 'accountable'.
prettty bleak, ain't it...
